Y Don't U
What is it?
Y Don’t U is a project based on new and broadcast media for Glasgow-based16 – 17 year olds at key transitions in life. A recent pilot, funded by ULS, Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency and the Big Lottery Fund, ran during July and August 2007 over six weeks with 12 young people. The project engaged a range of exciting professionals from the creative industries field and developed core and employability skills within the young people participating. Building on the work we have carried out with this pilot, we are aiming to develop an approach that meets the needs of both young people and industry representatives.
How does it work?
Y Don’t U is a challenge-based project with each weekly challenge being achieved through a programme of: skills-based training, masterclasses, inspirational talks, industry related, challenges, mentor support and industry visits.
The outcomes of weekly challenges are uploaded onto a Y Don’t U project site www.ydontu.tv every week for all delivery staff and stakeholders to log-on and assess the week’s efforts.
Where are we now?
Building on the success of the Y Don’t U pilot, ULS is currently expanding Y Don’t U into a wider programme to reach a greater number of young people. This is being developed in partnership with Glasgow South West Regeneration Agency.
