Designing computer games for older adults

This workshop was based around research undertaken through a series of creative computer game workshops for older adults in Teesside. Attendees were informed of the results of these workshops including guidelines for the design of computer games for older adults in order to raise awareness among the game developer community as well as academia and other communities.
Aims and Objectives
- To disseminate the latest research from the University of Teesside into games development for older adults.
- To identify how this research affects the design of games for this age group.
- To provide a framework of points to note when engaging with older adults in creating games especially for them.
Audience
Games developers, games players, community learning professionals, further and higher education professionals, creative industries.
Biography
Hannah R Marston graduated from the University of Teesside in 2003 with a BSc (Hons) Multimedia and 2004 with an MSc in Computing. Hannah started working at the university in January 2005 as a research assistant and is studying for an MPhil/PhD part time, investigating computer games and older adults. The project consists of a number of workshops, collating/analysing data, as well as looking into design and implementation of computer games for older adults.
