New media production company Inner Ear will lead an interactive workshop in how podcasting can be used to enhance your business. This session will explore uses of podcasting in various business models, from revenue generation to internal or external communications. Setting podcasting within the context of web 2.0 platforms, this session aims to stimulate discussion and ideas for innovative use of new media technologies.
This one day workshop will explore how it can be used for creative business development. The workshop outline will cover the following areas:
What Is Podcasting?
- Brief history of the medium
- Podcasting, blogging and RSS
- RSS in online communities and social networks
- How to make a podcast in ten minutes
- Having recorded our introduction, we will show delegates how the recording can quickly and easily be turned into a podcast
Examples of good and bad podcasts
- Planning a series
- Format
- Structure
- Content and copyright
- Case studies
Developing new business ideas
- Take an idea from one (or more) of the delegates
- Define the business objectives
- Which web technologies are most appropriate?
- What extra skills, hardware or software do you need to be able to use these technologies?
- With the group, map out a plan for business development
Further research and information
- Give delegates access to a podcast feed with useful audio, enhanced audio, video and PDF resources published in it
- Encourage independent research and investigation
- Offer advice and the opportunity to discuss potential future collaboration
Inner Ear (www.innerear.co.uk) is a new media production company based in Glasgow. Formed in 2000, they launched the highly-acclaimed alternative music internet radio station Radio Magnetic (www.radiomagnetic.com) in March 2001. Over the past seven years they've learnt a great deal about making and distributing content online.
