M-EYE City

When we examine experience in terms of learning, we are trying to understand both what the learner brings to their learning and the context in which that learning takes place. In the traditional delivery of curriculum based learning, learners are expected to understand difficult abstractions around history, society and culture without any context or view of how these subjects relate to their own experience. Technology changes the ways that learners can access information and today people have the expectation of interactivity in all walks of life. But this is not generally matched in their learning experiences.

The M-EYE-city project uses augmented and virtual reality technology to explore new ways of interacting with the city as a learning environment. Learners will have access to a repository of media rich digital content in the physical environment. By revealing the layers of the urban landscape, they will see the city in its historical context, take snapshots of current social and cultural issues and even design a future cityscape.
